Jay Bragg’s 12th full-length album “Call Home” was recorded primarily as a gift to his family for the 2022 holiday season. It contains 10 originals, all written by Bragg and a cover of a family favorite. Two of the tracks are brand new original Christmas songs.

This collection of music draws from Bragg’s earliest influences of folk, jazz, blues and country and contains magnificent fiddle and strings performance from world renown violinist and undisputed Fiddlecrusher Renae Truex.

Lately, I’ve found myself returning home.

In disorienting times like these with such chaos and division in our country and world, I’ve retreated back to my roots. My home life. My center.

After learning of my dad’s cancer diagnosis, this yearning only intensified and I began to assemble the music I’ve written that reflect themes of family, identity, belonging and service. Songs that serve serve as a lighthouse guiding me home no matter where I find myself in this journey of life.

2023 will be my 20th year being a professional musician and songwriter and 7th full year in Nashville. There are a lot of pressures here in Music City to produce music that fits neatly into a marketable genre, with sounds and themes that are palatable to the masses. And often times those pursuits lead the artist far from home.

What started as a simple acoustic singer/songwriter EP quickly developed into my 12th full length album I’m presenting to you titled Call Home and it is a sonic autobiography drawing from all the styles I grew up hearing as a child - jazz, folk, country, blues, classical and rock ’n’ roll. I am blessed to have collaborated with my dear friend, bandmate and world renowned fiddler Renae Truex on so much of the sound on this record. I am also proud to have my dad’s vocals on the song that we cowrote called “Living My Daddy’s Dreams” - a song which is the centerpiece and impetus of this record.

The primary purpose of this collection of songs is a gift to the essential people who believed in me, inspired me and helped me become the man I am today. Some have passed on and of course all of them, myself included, will someday meet the same fate.

So with that in mind, it’s a priority and a privilege to document and share this collection of music with you and I hope that it reminds you to call home every now and then and never miss an opportunity to embrace the ones you love and let them know how much they mean to you while while you still can.
